5x7 Area Rugs - The Perfect Size for Living Rooms and Dining Spaces
The 5x7 area rug is one of the most useful and popular sizes in the rug world - and it’s easy to understand why. At five feet wide and seven feet long, a 5x7 rug is large enough to make a substantial visual impact and define a seating area, but compact enough to fit in smaller living rooms, apartments, and dining spaces without overwhelming the room. It’s the Goldilocks of rug sizes: not too big, not too small, just right.
Our 5x7 area rug collection offers this versatile size in an extraordinary range of styles, patterns, and colors. Every design in our full catalog - from Turkish kilim to Nordic geometric, from floral to abstract - is available in 5x7, making it easy to find exactly the right rug for your space regardless of your aesthetic preferences.
5x7 for Living Rooms
In a living room, a 5x7 rug works best under the coffee table, with the front legs of sofas and chairs resting on the rug. This placement creates a unified seating area that feels intentional and put-together. A 5x7 rug is ideal for apartment living rooms, small-to-medium family rooms, and any space where a larger rug might feel overpowering or simply won’t fit.
5x7 for Dining Rooms
Placing a rug under a dining table is one of the most effective ways to elevate a dining room’s visual sophistication - but the sizing must be right. A 5x7 rug works well under a round dining table for four to six people, creating enough clearance for chairs to be pushed back without leaving the rug. For a rectangular table that seats six, a 5x7 rug provides a visual foundation while a larger rug would be needed if you want chairs fully on the rug in all positions.
Machine Washable 5x7 Rugs
Our washable 5x7 rugs combine this practical size with the convenience of machine washing. At 5x7, these rugs fit in a standard home washing machine on a gentle cycle - making them ideal for households with children and pets where easy cleaning is a priority.

What rooms suit a 5x7 rug best?
5x7 rugs work well in bedrooms, home offices, smaller living rooms, dining nooks, and kids rooms where a full 8x10 would be too large.
Is a 5x7 rug big enough for a bedroom?
Yes, a 5x7 rug under a full or queen bed works well when placed with two-thirds under the bed and one-third exposed at the foot.
Can a 5x7 rug anchor a sofa?
It can work in a smaller living room, but for a standard sofa arrangement, a 8x10 rug is typically recommended to allow all front legs on the rug.
Are 5x7 area rugs machine washable?

How do I pair a 5x7 rug with furniture?
